Oklahoma A+ Schools Institute (OKA+) at the University of Central Oklahoma will host free public performances featuring the 145th Army Band of the Oklahoma National Guard and the U.S. Air Force Academy Band as part of the nationwide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The performances are supported by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

The events will feature musical performances and presentations exploring the history and significance of military bands in the United States. The U.S. Air Force Academy Band will perform virtually from 6:30-7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the Center for Transformative Learning (CTL), Radke Fine Arts Theatre, on Central’s campus. The 145th Army Band of the Oklahoma National Guard will perform at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, in the CTL, Radke Fine Arts Theatre, in celebration of Veterans Week.

The funding is part of a broader national effort to engage communities in commemorating America's 250th anniversary through the arts while highlighting the historical and cultural contributions of military bands.

The 145th Army Band of the Oklahoma National Guard will perform an additional concert not related to the NEA funding at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at the Blue Tent at Broncho Lake on Central’s campus.

OKA+ at UCO partners with schools across the state to provide arts-integration curriculum and training that leverage creativity, critical thinking and student engagement across all educational content areas.
