UCO’s Sigma Nu Fraternity Chapter Honored with National Award

Oct. 15, 2025

UCO students and members of the Sigma Nu fraternity receive an award.

The University of Central Oklahoma’s Mu Tau chapter of the Sigma Nu fraternity received its first-ever Rock Chapter Award, the highest honor a collegiate chapter can receive from the national fraternity, recognizing sustained excellence across all areas of chapter operations, including leadership, academics, service and adherence to Sigma Nu’s core values of love, honor and truth.

Awarded every two years at Sigma Nu’s Grand Chapter gathering, the Rock Chapter Award honors chapters that have demonstrated consistent, high-level performance over a minimum two-year period. Only 20 out of 152 Sigma Nu chapters nationwide received the honor.

“Receiving the Rock Chapter Award is a true testament to our brothers’ excellence, dedication and integrity over the past several years,” said Dale Archer, chair of the Alumni Advisory Board for UCO’s Sigma Nu chapter and alumnus.

“This recognition affirms that Mu Tau not only meets the highest standards of Sigma Nu, but consistently lives out the values of love, honor and truth in all areas of chapter life at UCO and in the Edmond community.”

UCO’s Mu Tau chapter earned the award by meeting and exceeding national standards, achieving an overall 3.05 GPA and 100% member involvement in other campus organizations, with 41% of brothers serving in leadership roles.

The chapter raised $1,000 for charitable causes, averaged 24 hours of community service per member and implemented all phases of Sigma Nu’s acclaimed LEAD leadership development program, reinforcing its commitment to building effective and ethical leaders.

About University of Central Oklahoma

The University of Central Oklahoma is a campus community in motion—leading, innovating and creating transformative learning opportunities that foster success for our students. As Oklahoma’s largest metropolitan university, we provide high-quality, nationally recognized programs that are always evolving and adapting to the needs of our students and the community. This commitment is rooted in our founding in 1890 as the state’s teacher’s college, training those who would educate the next generation of leaders and innovators. We remain dedicated to offering an accessible, affordable education, earning national accolades for social mobility, veterans’ outreach and first-generation student programs.

Guided by the motto “ubi motus est” – which translates to “where movement is” – the university continues to evolve and grow, offering 119 undergraduate and 81 graduate programs to our more than 12,000 students from our main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma, and facilities throughout the Oklahoma City metro. Our colors were the first adopted of any university in the state, and our Bronze and Blue symbolize our greatest strengths—the illumination of new ideas and the endless expanse of a clear sky above. At UCO, anything is possible.

The university is governed by the Regional University System of Oklahoma Board of Regents and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
