UCO to Commemorate 25th Anniversary of 9/11

The University of Central Oklahoma invites the Edmond and Oklahoma City metro communities to join UCO students, faculty and staff commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and honoring the first responders and others who lost their lives.
The commemoration will begin with UCO's Army ROTC Broncho Battalion’s annual 9/11 Stair Run at 7 a.m., Sept. 11, at Chad Richison Stadium. The event will be followed by a flag-planting ceremony and a reflection walk at 9 a.m., at the Clock Tower near Broncho Lake, both located on Central’s campus.
The 9/11 Stair Run challenges participants to climb the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs in honor of the first responders who answered the call Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center. The Edmond and greater Oklahoma City communities are invited to participate alongside UCO students, faculty and staff.
“I hope this experience provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on what hundreds of first responders endured,” said LTC Andrew Anderson, chair and professor of military science at UCO and leader of the Broncho Battalion.
“Perhaps through the sweat and physical exhaustion, participants can draw closer not just to the events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, but to the people they so greatly impacted.”
Following the Stair Run, participants in the flag-planting ceremony and reflection walk will plant approximately 3,000 American flags around Broncho Lake in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11.
The UCO community will also participate in a service activity providing meals to six local Edmond fire stations in honor of the first responders who continue to serve the community.
