UCO Selected for National LER Accelerator Cohort to Advance Digital Credentialing
June 18, 2025

The University of Central Oklahoma has been selected to join the inaugural cohort of the Learning and Employment Record (LER) Accelerator, a national initiative focused on advancing accessible, interoperable LER systems. As one of only 25 projects nationwide chosen for participation, UCO will help pioneer innovative approaches to digital credentialing that enhance opportunities, learner agency and skills-based recognition.
UCO's project will integrate the Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) and micro-credentialing initiatives into a unified LER, making verified skills and learning milestones more accessible and recognizable to employers. This project is aligned with the goals of the LER Accelerator and its Principles of LER Adoption, which are accessible and boundless, collaborative and interoperable.
“We are excited to participate in this cohort as we work to create better, more accessible skills-focused programming for our students,” said Trevor Cox, Ph.D., director of learning innovation at UCO.
“UCO has been a leader in credentialing since launching the STLR initiative. We look forward to integrating our expanding micro-credentials program and creating new skills pathways that will enhance our students' experiences—both during their time at UCO and after they enter the workforce.”
The LER Accelerator’s efforts aim to modernize how learning achievements and job skills are documented and recognized, helping to create more transparent, efficient and learner-centered credentialing systems. Members of the LER Accelerator coalition are working collaboratively to address barriers to LER adoption and advance successful models and examples that accelerate the creation and issuance of quality credentials in postsecondary education.
