Jan. 17, 2025
The Melton Gallery at the University of Central Oklahoma presents “Seen & Heard: Album Art Direction and Design by Carrie Smith,” an exhibition showcasing album cover design by Carrie Smith. The exhibition is currently on display through Feb. 21, at the Melton Gallery, located in the UCO Art and Design Building on Central’s campus.
Smith, a 2004 graduate of UCO’s graphic design program, is an accomplished, creative executive in the music industry with nearly 20 years of experience. Currently serving as vice president of design at Concord Label Group in Los Angeles, she leads a team of award-winning designers dedicated to crafting visuals that elevate artists' careers.
Her impressive portfolio includes collaborations with renowned musicians, including St. Vincent, George Harrison, James Taylor, Evanescence and Tanya Tucker. Under her leadership, the design department has earned accolades, including the 2019 JUNO Award for Album Artwork of the Year for Rhye’s “Blood” album and a Clio Award for Design for the Coltrane ’58 vinyl box set packaging—both of which will be on display.
“Seen & Heard” highlights Smith’s artist-first approach to visual storytelling, showcasing her leadership, talent and ability to fuse design with music.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
