The University of Central Oklahoma Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) has awarded the E.C. Hall Outstanding Graduate Student Award for spring/summer 2024 to Central alumna Yasaman Seif. This award is given to one graduate student each semester post-graduation.

Seif completed a Master of Music Performance with an overall graduate GPA of 4.0 in December 2023. She was selected by the College of Fine Arts and Design as the college’s E.C. Hall Scholar for spring/summer 2024 and was chosen by the JCGS Graduate Council from a list of eligible nominees to receive the E.C. Hall Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

"The Jackson College of Graduate Studies is so proud of the nominees for this award, and we are especially proud of Yasaman's work as a student, educator, performer and researcher. She exemplifies what it means to be a Broncho—dedication, commitment, innovation and grit," said Sarah Gordon, Ph.D., dean of Central's JCGS.

“Receiving the E.C. Hall Scholar award was a culmination of my hard work and dedication—a recognition that I will carry forward in my career. As I continue to grow as a performer, educator and researcher, I remain grateful for the experiences and opportunities I’ve had at UCO,” Seif said.

“They have shaped me into the musician I am today, and I am excited to see where this journey will take me next. Adjusting to life in a new country came with its own set of challenges, but the UCO School of Music quickly became a second home to me. The supportive faculty, who encouraged my artistic ambitions and scholarly pursuits, played an enormous role in my growth.”

Seif is giving back through her active involvement in both Edmond and Oklahoma City's musical communities. She has performed in both solo and ensemble settings including with the UCO symphony, chamber orchestras and other various ensembles. In addition to her performance work, Seif has participated in recording film music for Oklahoma State University students' capstone projects. She also planned a cultural event in October 2024 to introduce Persian culture through dance, lectures and music.

Seif's name will be displayed on a plaque in the Graduate College office in the Nigh University Center. She will also be listed on the JCGS website as the spring/summer 2024 recipient.
