UCO HR Society Named Superior Chapter
Feb. 4, 2025

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) awarded the University of Central Oklahoma College of Business Human Resource Management Society the 2023-24 Superior Merit Award for providing superior growth and development opportunities to student chapter members.
"I am so proud of the leadership team for the 2023-24 academic year for once again stepping up to the challenge and achieving SHRM's Superior Merit Award," said Melody Edwards, instructor of management and UCO HR Society adviser.
"It's inspiring to see their passion for human resources and for creating beneficial opportunities for their fellow students while expanding their professional networks.”
The SHRM Student Chapter Superior Merit Award program encourages the development of effective student chapters and recognizes outstanding activities and projects.
To be considered for the award, student chapters must complete activities in leadership, operations, career development, community service, SHRM affiliate support and education.
"I am incredibly grateful for the previous leadership that led us to this accomplishment and for the team we have now that will undoubtedly bring continued success to the HR Society going forward," said Maegan Bedwell, a sophomore accounting major from Durant, Oklahoma, and the UCO HR Society president.
"Former President Mackenzie Goings left big shoes to fill, and I will do everything I can to serve the HR Society with grace for as long as I am president. I couldn't be prouder of this organization."
With more than 607 chapters and state councils, SHRM is the world's largest human resource management association, affecting more than 362 million workers and their families globally. Since its inception in 1948, the association has garnered a network of nearly 340,000 professionals in 180 countries—serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing the interests of the practice of human resource management.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in human resource management at the UCO College of Business prepares students for compliance, compensation, benefits, recruitment, training, organizational development, and human resources leadership. The program curriculum is aligned with SHRM and is offered in person and entirely online through UCO's Connected Campus.
