UCO Honored for Ninth Year as Top Institution for Veterans and Military-Connected Students
Nov. 11, 2024
The University of Central Oklahoma has once again been recognized as a leading institution for veterans and military-connected students, earning a spot on the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges list for the ninth consecutive year. UCO is one of only five institutions in Oklahoma to achieve this distinction, underscoring its commitment to providing outstanding support and services for those who have served.
Central focuses on providing services and support for veterans and military-connected students through the Veterans Higher Education Resource and Opportunity Center (VetHERO) and federally funded programs.
"This national recognition is a testament to the University of Central Oklahoma’s dedication to serving those who have sacrificed for our country,” said UCO President Todd G. Lamb.
“At UCO, military-connected students and their families find the specialized resources and support needed to earn their degrees and enter the workforce prepared for success."
The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program serving pre-college veterans and the Serving America’s Leaders Using Transformative Education (SALUTE) program serving Central’s veterans who are first-generation college students, are federally funded via U.S. Department of Education grants. These resources aid military-connected students in their academic, financial, physical and social needs.
The 2024 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges list is the largest and most comprehensive ranking of the best schools for military service members and veterans. The ranking looks at services available to veterans and practical information that will help veterans make important decisions about their career planning and how to use the education benefits they earned through military service.
Earlier this year, Central was designated a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. UCO was awarded this honor for its longstanding commitment to serving military-connected faculty, staff and students, specifically those who were wounded in combat.
