Jan. 22, 2026

University of Central Oklahoma College of Business students were recently awarded scholarships from the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) Educational Foundation.
Katy Croft, a senior from Stillwater, Oklahoma, was named an OSCPA Micah B. Steelman scholar. The Micah B. Steelman Memorial Scholarship holds special significance as it honors the late Steelman, a UCO accounting alumnus and professional who was passionate about mentoring students. The scholarship is granted to a UCO accounting student with a primary interest in tax.
Ashton Billings, a senior from Edmond, Oklahoma, received the OSCPA Thomas Fund Scholarship.
Maegan Bedwell, a senior from Durant, Oklahoma, was selected as a general OSCPA scholar.
"It is such an honor to receive an award from OSCPA as an aspiring CPA," Bedwell said.
"In addition to this scholarship helping with the costs of school, it is also a huge boost to my morale to have support from established professionals."
This year, more than $65,000 in scholarships was awarded to 41 accounting students across Oklahoma. Individual awards ranged from $1,000 to $4,000. In addition to general scholarships, OSCPA awarded 11 named scholarships to students who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and commitment to the accounting profession.
"Investing in future CPAs through these scholarships is one of the most meaningful ways we can support the profession and our state," said Blaine Peterson, J.D., CPA, OSCPA president and CEO.
"These students will be leading the profession forward locally and beyond."
To be eligible, scholarship recipients must have completed at least six credit hours of principles of accounting, be enrolled at an Oklahoma university for the upcoming semester, be declared accounting majors and be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree.
UCO's Accounting Department, housed within the AACSB-accredited College of Business, offers two Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and forensic accounting, as well as a minor and two certificates. Through a strong foundation in accounting principles, experiential learning opportunities and professional development, students are equipped for success in the workforce and for pursuing professional credentials such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
