Dec. 17, 2024
University of Central Oklahoma College of Business student Anne-Michelle Jean Baptiste, a senior accounting major from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was named a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) scholar and an Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) Micah B. Steelman scholar.
“Anne-Michelle is a very enthusiastic student who is developing into a tremendous leader. She is a pleasure to be around—always positive and hardworking. The department is thrilled to see her receive these scholarships," said Bambi Hora, J.D., professor and chairperson of the Department of Accounting at UCO.
The PCAOB Scholars Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in accounting degree programs working to become auditors at specific accredited U.S. colleges and universities. Since the program's inception in 2011, PCAOB has awarded over $32.5 million in scholarships to 2,918 recipients.
The Micah B. Steelman Scholarship is named after the late Micha Steelman, a dedicated accounting professional and UCO alumnus who had a passion for mentoring Central students, is given to a UCO student pursuing a degree in accounting who expresses a primary interest in taxes. Baptiste is one of nine students across Oklahoma to be awarded an OSCPA scholarship for outstanding academic achievements.
"These scholarships are a tremendous blessing for my family and me. As an international student facing high tuition costs, this support not only alleviates financial pressure but also allows me to fully concentrate on my studies and work toward my goal of becoming a certified public accountant," Baptiste said.
