UCO College of Business Receives Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Distinction
Nov. 19, 2024
The University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Business was recently named a Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Honors Chapter and is the only university in Oklahoma to earn honors distinction for the 2023-24 academic year.
The distinction is given to a BGS chapter that completes eight required activities throughout the academic year, acquires at least 15 of 30 point-earning opportunities and submits a completed survey by the given deadline.
"I am excited that the UCO College of Business has earned the distinction of being the only Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Chapter in Oklahoma," said Jeremy Oller, J.D., Ph.D., dean of the UCO College of Business.
"Beta Gamma Sigma is the international business honor society for AACSB-accredited schools, which are considered the top 6% of business school programs worldwide. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to academic excellence and celebrates our learners as being in the elite company of future business leaders worldwide."
Bambi Hora, J.D., professor and chairperson of the Department of Accounting at UCO, is the co-sponsor of the College of Business' BGS chapter.
"Beta Gamma Sigma allows the best of the best of the College of Business students the opportunity to be recognized," Hora said.
"To earn honors status takes effort from all levels in the college — a supportive dean, academic advisors working with students and department chairs and faculty encouraging students to take advantage of the opportunity."
Since 1913, BGS has honored the highest-achieving students in business programs. To provide lifetime value to its members, BGS fosters connections among individuals in the organization through programs, benefits and opportunities.
To become a member of BGS at UCO, a student must be a sophomore or above, have completed 30-plus hours at UCO and rank among the top 10% of their class by GPA or be a graduate student among the top 20% of their class having completed at least half of the program. Additionally, the student must be enrolled at a business school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
